It’s only natural for hair to grow even on the most unwanted parts of the body. And let’s face it, shaving, plucking/tweezing, and waxing your hair can be quite frustrating at times, especially when razor bumps, ingrown hairs, and acne-like breakouts occur. These hair removal methods also waste a lot of time as they have to be done regularly.
If you’re tired and irritated of dealing with unwanted hair on your body, then there’s a safe, effective, and long-term procedure to get rid of it; the Laser Hair Removal.
What Is Laser Hair Removal?
Laser hair removal is a procedure that utilizes a specific, high-intensity beam of light to remove unwanted body hair. It can be used to effectively remove or reduce hair from all parts of the body, including the face, armpits, bikini area, chest, back, legs, and neck. The laser light is emitted in pulses, which get absorbed by the hair pigment. The absorbed light is then converted into heat, damaging the hair follicle and the hair bulb. Depending on your hair pigmentation, a different wavelength of light may be used to attain ideal results.
Although this may sound like a painful process, advanced laser technology, like the one we utilize at Lumiskins, integrates a cooling mechanism (cold blasts) to keep the process minimally painful.
Preparing For Laser Hair Removal Treatment
- Avoid plucking or waxing 4-6 weeks before your appointment
- Minimize exposure to sunlight a few days prior to your treatment as laser hair removal cannot be done on tanned skin (apply sunscreen).
- Avoid any activities or procedures that irritate the skin
- If possible, avoid anti-inflammatory medications, e.g., aspirin, as they increase the risk of bleeding during the procedure
- Don’t apply skin products on the target area, such as makeup, perfume, or deodorant, before your procedure
What To Expect During Laser Hair Removal Procedure
During your appointment, your Lumiskins specialist may first trim the hair on the target area close to the skin (a few millimetres). This area is then cleaned.
A topical numbing gel is then applied on the area to be treated to reduce the laser stings. While waiting for the numbing gel to kick in, the specialist adjusts the laser machine to the most effective light wavelength as per your hair pigment and thickness, and the skin tone of the target area.
Before the procedure starts, everyone in the room wears protective eyewear to avoid damage to the eyes from the laser light. The specialist then focuses the high-intensity laser light at the treatment area, and your hair starts vaporizing. Depending on the target area, the procedure might take a few minutes (small areas like the upper lip) to one or more hours (larger areas such as the back).
Laser hair removal can result in clear skin, emitting ingrown hairs. To enhance your looks, you should consider Lumiskins treatment for perfect style.
What To Expect After Laser Hair Removal Treatment
After a laser hair treatment session, you may experience some minor irritation, which is typical with the procedure. This and other minor effects that you may experience subside within a few hours or days. To reduce irritation and the extent of other side effects, you’re required to avoid exposure to sunlight (apply sunscreen) and other skin irritants.
One treatment session is not enough to eliminate all the hair on any desired area as hair follicles respond differently to the laser light treatment. About three to eight sessions are required to acquire the desired results. After your first treatment session, you will notice a significant hair reduction (up to 25%). As you continue with more treatment sessions, more hair will be eliminated. After successful hair removal, you may require one or two yearly maintenance sessions.
